CURRENT SINGLE: “Next Girl”
Carly Pearce’s latest single, “Next Girl,” is a warning to women everywhere who might fall prey to the player, the smooth talker, the seducer, who might try to make her his next victim. Carly and her co-writers, Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne, give away some of this guy’s game in the lyrics of the song, but if Carly had to sum up the guy she’s singing about in “Next Girl,” she says, “I think these guys come on really strong, really fast. I think they have a program that they use on every girl to woo them and to charm them, and to make them feel like they’re the only one that they’ve ever felt this way about. I think they do all the things that every girl wants in a romance. But then very quickly they turn it off.”
Perhaps one of the most important messages Carly wants to share with her fellow “Next Girl,” because she’s been there, is that his behavior has nothing to do with her. She might blame herself for his changes, and the guy might even try to make her feel like it’s her fault, but Carly says, “It’s just not. It’s the same program for every girl.”
“Next Girl” is the first song off Carly’s new project, which she plans to release in the next few months.
