(AUDIO) RILEY GREEN SEES LUKE COMBS AS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF THE KIND OF ARTIST HE WANTS TO BE

CURRENT SINGLE: “If It Wasn’t for Trucks”

Before Riley Green had his record deal, he was playing clubs and venues all throughout the southeast, and often played a lot of the same clubs as Luke Combs, even opening for him in 2015 before either of them had anything going in Nashville.  Both guys built a pretty sizable following before they ever had a song on the radio.  But as Riley explains, “You can build a following by putting out music prior to the record deal. And it’s a lot slower.  Trust me, I’ve seen it both ways, and having a song on the radio is unreal.  But, you know, me and Luke, we had kinda the same model, and he was one of those that I was a fan of.”

Not only did Riley admire the way Luke steadily built his career but he says, “I can remember some of the songs that he had I was listening to five years ago that have just gotten on the radio.  He was a great songwriter, of course a great performer, great singer, and one thing I appreciate about him was he was believable.  The stuff he was singing about, I believed it.  And that’s kinda what I always wanna do, is write songs about stuff that I know and stuff that I’ve lived, or at least something that’s true to me in some way, shape or form.”

If you listen to Riley’s latest EP, including the title track and his current single, “If It Wasn’t for Trucks,” it’s clear that he’s doing just that.

“One thing about Luke in particular is, you know, we came up playing a lot of the same venues, and really did it a lot the same way.  I mean, and it’s a little bit of different time in that you can build a following by putting out music prior to the record deal.  And it’s a lot slower.  Trust me, I’ve seen it both ways, and having a song on the radio is unreal.  But, you know, me and Luke, we had kinda the same model, and he was one of those that I was a fan of, and I can remember some of the songs that he had, I was listening to five years ago that have just gotten on the radio.
