After 10 months of wearing a face mask because of the pandemic, most people are pretty tired of them. But Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line says, “I like wearing a mask, I’m not gonna lie. It’s been fun walking through Target and feelin’ … you know, not that we’re always getting recognized or that we’re getting hassled, or that it’s anything like that, but you always sort of, after so many years, you sorta feel like people are looking at you even if they’re not. And so, with a mask on, you’re like nobody knows it’s me, I can do whatever.”
Tyler isn’t the only country star who has enjoyed experiencing a little bit of anonymity during the pandemic. Carrie Underwood went to a grocery store the day before Thanksgiving and to the mall to do some Christmas shopping for the first time in a long time without being recognized. Dierks Bentley rode his bicycle down near his bar and the other honkytonks on Lower Broadway in downtown Nashville with nobody knowing who he was. And while Tyler is extremely grateful for FGL’s fans, and he doesn’t mind getting recognized or having people stop him to say hi, he says not being recognized with a mask on, “There is some freedom in that. It’s kind of fun. I was saying that for a while. I’m like, ‘Man, I hope this pandemic’s over soon, but I hope the mask thing is still normal for a little while cause I’ll probably rock it for a little while, maybe the next year.’”
Tyler even joked about going down to the bar Florida Georgia Line owns in downtown Nashville, declaring, “I’m gonna go party at FGL House with a mask on and just rage!”
