CURRENT SINGLE: “What’s Your Country Song”
Congratulations to Thomas Rhett on “What’s Your Country Song” becoming his 17th consecutive #1 song of his career. The song is about reminiscing about that country song that represents a special memory for you. Thomas’ dad, Rhett Aklins, who was an artist back in the 90’s, was one of his co-writers on the song, and Thomas explains how they ended up including a reference to his dad’s 1995 hit, “That Ain’t My Truck,” in “What’s Your Country Song.” “As we started to kinda craft this song, we had the chorus first, and then we were trying to figure out where to take the verses. And we kinda thought, what if we could tell a story in the verses through using some of our favorite song titles, whether it’s from the 80s or from the 90s or now. I remember the first line that I spit out was, ‘Are you heartbroke because you know that ain’t your truck in her drive,’ literally as a joke, just cause dad was sittin’ there.”
Even though he had no intention of leaving the line in the song initially, because he only said it as a joke, Thomas says, “As we started to write the song, it felt like it just fit. It was pretty funny, but I’m glad dad got a shout out in that song.”
With 17 consecutive #1 songs, Thomas holds the record for the most consecutive #1 songs at Country Radio.
