CURRENT SINGLE: “How They Remember You”
There’s no denying that Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts is a great vocalist, but we wondered if he ever received a demo for a song that was sung by an incredible voice that ever intimidated him. “It’s always easier when you have a great singer,” says Gary. “You know, when you’ve got somebody doing some acrobatic stuff and somebody who can just really do that melody. I’ve just always been affected by great singers.”
At the same time, Gary admits he has to be careful when listening to demos sung by a really great singer. “I mean, sometimes, you gotta really listen to it because you don’t know if the song is great or the singer’s great. But to hear somebody that’s really singin’ it and doin’ it and I feel it, then it’s just kinda like, ‘Okay, yeah. Oh yeah. All right. Yeah.’”
Once Gary lives with a song for a little while, to really be sure it’s something he and Rascal Flatts wants to record, he says, “Then I go, ‘Okay, well I would have done that here, and done that here.’ If everybody agrees on it, then hopefully I get a chance to go in there and try to take what they did and just try to make it my own, you know.”
