CURRENT SINGLE: “Next Girl”
Carly Pearce will celebrate her 31st birthday this Saturday, April 24th, and at Sunday night’s ACM Awards, she received the ultimate presents, in the form of two wins, for Single of the Year and Musical Event of the Year for “I Hope You’re Happy Now.” While the song wasn’t the easiest to write, because it is about Carly taking responsibility for breaking someone’s heart, she says, “This was my story as an apology to somebody in my past, and I think that what’s showed me time and time again through country music, is that writing my own stories and just telling my truth, so many other people are going through the exact same things and this just validates it on like a crazy level. And I just feel so proud.”
Not only did winning two ACM awards (and a CMA award) for the song validate Carly’s decision to speak her truth in her music, she says, “I think it’s the validation that we all go through the same things, and it’s the validation that my stories matter. It’s the validation that the kind of music that I write and the kind of music that I get to sing, and the kind of music that I get to perform matters to country music. And that’s all I ever wanted.”
Earlier this year, Carly released an incredible new collection of songs called 29, which was inspired by the hardest year of her life. Now as she wraps up her 30th year on this planet, and looks back at all that has happened in her life in the last year, Carly says, “I feel like I keep saying that 29 and 30 were the years that really tested my faith. And I think that God takes things and sometimes has to break it down to ashes in order to make something beautiful out of it. And I feel like 30 and 31, and hopefully 32, is all the good. And he uses our pain sometimes for good, and I’m grateful.”
Believe it or not, Carly is already working on new music to follow up 29, most likely later this year.
