(AUDIO) BRANTLEY GILBERT GETS PAST WRITER’S BLOCK BY GETTING AWAY FROM IT

CURRENT SINGLE: “The Worst Country Song of All Time”

Brantley Gilbert writes all of his own songs, and even songs that have been recorded by other people, but like every songwriter, he occasionally gets writer’s block, which he says is “the worst.”  Fortunately, Brantley has come up with ways to get past writer’s block, although he says, “I haven’t learned my lesson long enough not to drive myself nuts over it for at least an hour or more.”

But once Brantley stops trying to fight through the block, he says, “[I] finally just sit down and either pivot to another song or kinda step away for a minute, walk outside, go get on the bike or, you know, go get lunch or whatever it may be. But yeah, I think it’s just, man, about gettin’ separation from it.”

The good thing is, taking a little time away from writing the song that has Brantley hung up usually does the trick, and he says, “it’s surprising to see what you come back to the table with.”

Brantley Gilbert – how get past writer’s block  :31

“Writer’s block, ugh, the worst. I can honestly say, if I ever run into a stop sign when I’m writin’… Now I haven’t learned my lesson long enough not to drive myself nuts over it for at least an hour or more, but I got to the point where at some point, you finally just sit down and either pivot to another song or kinda step away for a minute, walk outside, go get on the bike or, you know, go get lunch or whatever it may be. But yeah, I think it’s just, man, about gettin’ separation from it and it’s surprising to see what you come back to the table with.”
