CURRENT SINGLE: “If It Wasn’t for Trucks”
Riley Green is a true country boy from Alabama. It’s what he writes about and what he sings about, but we wondered if he only listens to country music, or if there’s anything on his musical playlists that might surprise people. “If it was my workout playlist, there’d be some Tupac (Shakur) and Biggie (Smalls aka The Notorious B.I.G.) in there,” Riley confessed. “That’s probably surprising to a lot of people.”
There are probably some other unexpected songs or artists that Riley enjoys listening to, but he says, “I listen to a lot of different kinds of music, and I always try to keep myself well-rounded, in a sense of I don’t want to sound too much like one thing, you know.”
That’s why in addition to gangster rap, there are less surprising artists Riley has been known to crank up. “There’s a lot of really old stuff in there,” he says. “There’s some Roy Acuff and George Jones, Merle Haggard. That certain time of day it just hits me that’s what I wanna listen to. So, it’s a little bit of everything on my playlist.”
Someone once said that George Strait was known to listen to a little gangsta rap on his bus every now and then (true story), so it seems Riley is in good company.
