CURRENT SINGLE: “Like A Lady”
Back in 2019, Lady A had their own Las Vegas residency, and they have said they would definitely consider doing another one, maybe a longer one, in the future, partly because it was a smart business move. For their Las Vegas show, Lady A didn’t try to compete with the over-the-top productions of residencies like Shania Twain’s or Celine Dion’s. “We’re not a giant crazy flashy band,” says Charles, “so we didn’t wanna try to compete with some of those really flashy shows because it probably isn’t gonna feel authentic. But we didn’t want it to be 90 minutes of sittin’ around an acoustic guitar.“
So, although Lady A didn’t have lasers and pyrotechnics or live animals on the stage, they put on a show that was just right for them, and Charles says, “I do think being in one place you can really have a production that you can spend a lot of money on and still do good business, because it is expensive to tour.”
With a residency, you stay in one place and the fans come to you, which means so much of the cost of taking a tour on the road is suddenly gone and not eating away at your profits . “I mean, sittin’ down with our business manager and goin’, ‘Oh my gosh, we don’t have to spend all this money on eight trucks and trailers and tour buses and all this stuff, and we get a transient audience each night,” Charles says with a bit of excitement. “With the exception of probably 20 people that’ll come back the next night or something, it’s a new audience.”
While Lady A loves getting to travel the world to see their fans in their own home towns, doing another residency will always be an intriguing idea for a lot of reasons, and one they may revisit in the future.
