CURRENT SINGLE: “Am I the Only One”
Aaron Lewis writes songs all the time, but he writes them for himself to record, and not for other people. “To look back and think about and realize all the opportunities that I have passed up to write with people, or to write a song for someone, you know, I don’t know whether I would change the decision I made,” says Aaron, “But I’d certainly love to have the opportunity to say no again,” he laughs.
It’s not that Aaron is being selfish with his songs, but he says, “I guess the way I’ve always looked at it is if I’m gonna write a song good enough for somebody else to put out as their song, why wouldn’t I put it out myself?”
While Aaron has focused on writing songs from his personal perspective that he would be willing to record, he says, “Has the thought process of me delving into this songwriting thing a little bit and getting together with people and co-writing and stuff like that for somebody else, where I could write about stuff that doesn’t pertain to me and just tell stories? Sure, I’ve entertained that idea.”
So if you ever see Aaron’s name listed as a co-writer on a song someone else recorded, chances are he was writing the song as a character or not as a reflection of his personal experiences or feelings.
