CURRENT SINGLE: “Like A Lady”
If you listen to the album version of Lady A’s latest single, “Like A Lady,” the song kicks off with the band shouting, “Lady!,” in harmony. That opening and the overall sound of “Like A Lady” is very reminiscent of an 80’s rock song and Charles Kelley admits, “I was a little hesitant about that at first. I was like, ‘Is that kind of cheesy?’ And then I kept listening to it and we would mute it, and then I would miss it if it wasn’t there.”
Ultimately, they left the opening shout on “Like A Lady,” and Charles was confident Lady A’s producer, Dann Huff, would know exactly how to give the song an 80’s rock flair, because before Dann was one of the most sought after country music producers in Nashville, he was one of the hottest studio musicians who played guitar on albums for the likes of Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Barbara Streisand, Madonna, Bob Seger and Rod Stewart. And Charles points out, “That’s where he got most of his chops was during the 80s, 90s – you know, he’s played on a lot of those Mutt Lange [produced] records [Def Leppard, AC/DC, Foreigner ] – so he knew all those tricks.”

“I will say, I was a little hesitant about that at first. I was like, ‘Is that kind of cheesy?’ And then I kept listening to it and we would mute it, and then I would miss it if it wasn’t there. So, it’s kind of a funny thing. It’s all part of that process, but that’s where Dann comes in. That’s where he got most of his chops was during the 80s, 90s – you know, he’s played on a lot of those Mutt Lange records – so he knew all those tricks. Because we said we want this to sound like a total throwback, and then of course adding the fiddle and finding different ways to kind of give it that country rock flair. So, I think Dann Huff knew what to do. He knew all the tricks.”
