(AUDIO) AS MIDLAND’S PERSONAL LIVES HAVE EVOLVED, SO HAS THEIR MUSIC

CURRENT SINGLE – “Sunrise Tells the Story”

Midland released their latest EP, The Last Resort, a couple of months ago, featuring their latest single, “Sunrise Tells the Story.”  The Last Resort is the beginning of what will be Midland’s third album, and it’s an evolution of their first album, On the Rocks, which they released this week back in 2017.  At the time Midland wrote and recorded their debut album, Mark Wystrach was a bachelor and still experiencing dating life, and he says, “On the first album I was going through a breakup, which was really based upon just not the right match, but also because of the demands and the strains of being on the road and being in a band.”

His rocky love life were inspiration for some great heartbreak songs, like Midland’s #1 song, “Drinkin’ Problem, because Mark says, “So much of those feelings can be universal. It’s the human experience. You show me somebody with a perfect relationship and I’ll show you some psychopath. The natural state is to have friction.”

Since making that first album, Mark has gotten married and had a little girl, Sunny, who will turn two in November.  “And now,” he says, “I’m in a beautiful functioning relationship that knows how to deal with problems, address them healthily, and then resolve, and then essentially grow from that. And I feel like that’s what we’ve all done from On the Rocks.  We all three as individuals have grown.  As musicians and songwriters we’ve grown, which comes from living, which comes from practicing, which comes from playing and experiencing.”

That growth in the band can be heard on The Last Resort, and will continue to influence the new music Midland is working on for their next studio album.
