Eli Young Band has been a touring band for over 20 years, which means they’ve put together a lot of set lists and had to figure out how to reinvent their shows year after year so they and their fans don’t get bored. “Reinvigorating your setlist, especially as much as we tour and as many shows as we play, it’s not easy,” admits Mike Eli. “You’re trying to figure out whether it’s putting in, you know, some of those older cover songs that you have played before, switching ‘em up. And then, kind of re-learning some of the older songs or songs that you hadn’t played in a while.”
Besides mixing things up with cover songs, Mike says, “Luckily, we have a back catalog of albums that we can pull from. And it kinda gets exciting sometimes because it’s like you forget about certain songs after a while. And then it’s like, ‘Oh man, we used to play that all the time.’ And then you get really excited switching songs in and out.”
Plus, bass player Jon jones points out that sometimes even little tweaks can change EYB’s live shows in a big way. “It’s pretty surprising how much, honestly for us, like just changing what’s gonna be the first song can change the landscape of the whole set,” says Jon. “And the difference of what one hit can do. We said forever, we need three, you know, a beginning, middle and end. So, what do you do when you have four? The more of those songs you have, they can really change the dynamic of a whole set.”
The good news for Eli Young Band and their fans is that they have their brand new song, “Love Talking” to add to their set list their Love Talking tour, which just kicked off this month, plus they have even more new music coming later this year that they might give their fans a sneak listen to during their upcoming live shows.
