DEBUT SINGLE : “Don’t Come Lookin’”
Jackson Dean will release his debut album, Greenbroke, later this week. For those who have never heard the word, “Greenbroke essentially is – you’ve got two kind of horses. You’ve got a broke horse and a greenbroke horse,” explains Jackson. “A broke horse will do what you want and it won’t buck you off or nothing, but a greenbroke horse, you might be able to ride it for a minute but it’s never gonna be broken.”
In a lot of ways, Greenbroke represents who Jackson is and where he’s at in his life these days, and you can hear that in songs on his debut album, like “Don’t Come Lookin’” and “Trailer Park.” “It’s just about being wild and untamable and never losing your wild,” says Jackson. In the simplest of terms, he says, “Greenbroke is just wide open… Wide open. “
And the fact that fans and radio and critics have been so receptive to and enthusiastic about Jackson’s music has been a little surprising to him. “It’s really weird,” he says, “I know that my music is a bit much and it’s a bit in your face, and it’s a bit out there. And I’m not gonna say I never thought, cause I know that some people got it, but to see what’s happened the last couple weeks… I mean, the fact that I’m a signed artist at Big Machine, that I’m even here is just … it’s a lot.”
Jackson is thankful people seem to be loving his music, and he tries to wrap his head around the numbers every time someone shares good news with him, like how many radio stations are playing his debut single, or how many times fans have streamed his music. But ultimately he says, “I’m just trying to keep my nose on the grindstone and do what I need to do to get to where I wanna go, my own way. As far as numbers and all go, I leave that to whoever’s job that is.”
