DEBUT SINGLE – “Learn From It”
Conner Smith was signed as a writer with BMI (the performance rights organization for songwriters) when he was just nine years old, and he signed his deal to become a full-time, paid songwriter, when he was still in high school. Even with that early success, Conner stayed in school and graduated because he says, “The one thing my parents said, ‘Hey, you’re gonna finish high school. I understand if you’re not gonna go to college, but you’re gonna finish high school.’”
In hindsight, Conner knows that was the best thing they could have told him, and it was the right decision for a lot of reasons. “I think a big thing for me was if I’m not living life, what am I gonna write about? And so, just to drop out of school, it didn’t feel like it made sense cause, man, I need to have memories and stories that I can write songs about, and talk about the girl that broke my heart that I see in class, you know what I mean?”
It was a lot of those experiences that Conner relied on to write the songs on his debut album, Didn’t Go Too Far, including his debut single, “Learn from It.”

“You know, the one thing my parents said, ‘Hey, you’re gonna finish high school. I understand if you’re not gonna go to college, but you’re gonna finish high school,’ and very right in that. And also, I think a big thing for me was if I’m not living life, what am I gonna write about? And so, just to drop out of school, it didn’t feel like it made sense cause, man, I need to have memories and stories that I can write songs about, and talk about the girl that broke my heart that I see in class, you know what I mean?”
