(AUDIO) LADY A REFLECTS ON “WHAT IF I NEVER GET OVER YOU” BEING THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR THEIR FRESH START

CURRENT SINGLE:  “What A Song Can Do”

Three years ago this week, Lady A released “What If I Never Get Over you,” as their debut single on BMLG Records.  It was a big decision, because there was so much anticipation about what Lady A would deliver with this new chapter in their career, and Hillary Scott says for them, the decision to release “What If I Never Get Over You” first was kind of an easy one. “This song in particular, the lyric pulled us in. We loved the melody, we loved everything about it,” she says. “It felt so relatable to so many people, to everybody. I think we’ve all been there.  And it just felt like that great back-and-forth duet that we really love getting to do together.”

Thinking about the true meaning of the song and the sound of “What If I Never Get Over You,” Charles Kelley says, “We’ve been chasin’ a lot of that sound of ‘Need You Now’ for the longest time, and we almost felt like this was the perfect time to maybe chase that down again cause so much time has been in between.”

Lady A wasn’t looking to repeat something they had already done, but there was something about the feel and the emotion and the sound of “Need You Now,” that they always hoped to find again, and Charles says, “This was kind of a continuation of that story. It was like 10 years later. ‘Need You Now,’ like there’s still hope. And then ‘What If I Never Get Over You,’ it’s like, well that door’s closin’. It’s gone, and now I’ve got to come to terms with that and move on. So, there was just something about it. I mean everything about this song felt so much us.”

“What If I Never Get Over You” turned out to be the perfect choice for Lady A’s debut on their new record label, and it became their first #1 song in five years, since topping the charts with “Bartender” in 2014.

Hillary Scott – “This song in particular, the lyric pulled us in. We loved the melody, we loved everything about it. It felt so relatable to so many people, to everybody. I think we’ve all been there.  And it just felt like that great back-and-forth duet that we really love getting to do together.”

Charles Kelley – “I think that was when we knew this could be something special, when I was like, man, I didn’t think about it, but lyrically, it was like, this could work for both sides. And we’ve been chasin’ a lot of that sound of ‘Need You Now’ for the longest time, and we almost felt like this was the perfect time to maybe chase that down again cause so much time has been in between. You know, if we had maybe followed up the Need You Now record and then had a song like ‘What If I Never Get Over You,’ they’re like, you just did the same thing almost. But for us, this was kind of a continuation of that story.  It was like (10 years later) 10 years later. ‘Need You Now,’ like there’s still hope. And then ‘What If I Never Get Over You,’ it’s like, well that door’s closin’. It’s gone, and now I’ve got to come to terms with that and move on. So, there was just something about it. I mean everything about this song felt so much us.”
