BRAND NEW SINGLE: “What He Didn’t Do”
When Carly Pearce started writing the songs on her 29: Written in Stone album, she didn’t have a grand plan to chronicle her personal struggles of divorce and loss in a collection of songs. “I think when I started writing this, it was what I was going through in real time and it just kinda came out as the story,” says Carly. “And then once I kind of started to figure out that’s what I was doing, I made sure that I wrote until I finished the story.”
Carly definitely had her reservations about laying out her experience in such real and raw ways, but now she’s glad she did. “When I think back to the moments where I was starting to write this album and kind of being afraid of it,” says Carly, “and also being a little bit unsure if people would care because it was so personal, to now see how much it has impacted different people.”
While Carly knows some of the details in some of her songs are unique to her situation, it’s been so gratifying to hear from people who relate so strongly to the feelings she wrote about. “And maybe they didn’t exactly go through my story to a T,” says Carly, “but everybody goes through hard things, and it’s been interesting just to see people find their story in these songs.”
“What He Didn’t Do” is a song on Carly’s album that a lot of fans have related to, which is why Carly chose it as her next single to follow up “Never Wanted to Be That Girl.”
