BRAND NEW SINGLE: “What He Didn’t Do”
Csrly Pearce is following up her #1 duet with Ashley McBryde, “Never Wanted to Be That Girl,” with a song that fans have been clamoring for her to release since they first heard it. “What He Didn’t Do,” off Carly’s 29: Written in Stone album, is basically a calling out of all the things I guy didn’t do, that caused him to lose her. “I wrote ‘What He Didn’t Do’ at the end of 2020 with Ashley Gorley and Emily Shackleton. And it was actually the second song that we wrote in the day, which sometimes that’s the one that really hits. And I remember driving away and thinking, wow, I think this song is special.”
Because Carly has such a special connection with her fans, built on her willingness to be vulnerable and honest in her songwriting, she often turns to them to get their guage on a new song. Carly says, “Again, I did what I always do, and I go test out songs against my team‘s will, and went and was playing a writers round in Nashville, and played this song. And from that moment – somebody put this video up on YouTube – and I’ve never had a song that just organically, socially, people ask for it in everything I do, whether it’s online or in a tweet or in a DM or if I’m doing an interview, or radio stations have asked about it.”
Not only did that reaction make it a no-brainer for Carly to record the song for her album, but it also sealed its fate as her next single. “And people may think that I write too much of my story,” says Carly, “but for me that’s my duty. And I feel like when I am writing my story I am writing other people’s story, and this song proves it.”
“What He Didn’t Do” officially goes for adds at country radio on Monday, June 13, after Carly spends the weekend with her fans in Nashville at CMA Fest, including a performance Friday night (6/10) on the main stage at Nissan Stadium.
