CURRENT SINGLE: “You Didn’t”
Brett Young definitely has some R&B influences in his music, partly due to the music he grew up listening to when he was growing up in Southern California, including artists his siblings exposed him to. In fact, Brett is pretty sure that the first concert her ever attended with his sister was so that he could be a chaperone of sorts, or maybe in his sister’s eyes, a fun blocker.
Brett Young – first concert with sister :17
“My first ever concert was Boyz II Men and Montell Jordan. My older sister took me, and I don’t remember, but I would bet money that she was forced to take me to like, keep her in line. Cause she’s eight years older and my parents probably were worried that she was gonna get a little wild, and they’re like, ‘Well, here’s your little brother. Be annoyed all night.’ So, I’ve been in love with Boyz II Men ever since.”
That first time seeing Boyz II Men was in 1994, when Brett was just 13 years old. Fast forward 28 years later, and Brett has now had a chance to perform with Boyz II Men on a couple of occasions, including a CMT Crossroads special back in 2019, and when they appeared on his CMT Crossroads Christmas Edition special this past December. And it turns out, Brett even has a special recording he did with one of the members of Boyz II Men not too long ago.
Brett Young – BIIM on You Didn’t :14
“And actually, I don’t know if this will ever happen, but the single I have out right now, ‘You Didn’t,’ we felt there was like a Boyz II Men vibe to it. And I called Wanya at like midnight that night when we finished it, and I have a version of that song as a duet with Wanya from Boyz II Men. I don’t know if it’ll ever get heard, but it exists.”
Even if nobody else ever hears that version of “You Didn’t” with Brett Young and Wanya Morris from Boyz II Men, we have a feeling Brett has listened to it over and over and over agsin.
