CURRENT SINGLE: “Longneck Way to Go” w/ Jon Pardi
If you want to know what music Midland has been listening to recently, all you have to do is listen to their latest album. Lead singer Mark Wystrach says all of their albums are heavily influenced by whatever they each happen to be listening to just before and during the process of recording each album, and their latest album, The Last Resort: Greetings From, is no exception.
Midland – album reflects what listening to :46
Mark Wystrach – “I think the sounds that you’re hearing and the style of songs definitely give insight into what Midland was listening to during Covid. What you’re hearing is a lot because we had a lot of time on our hands. So, we kind of all went exploring and did a deep dive back into a lot of the stuff that maybe we hadn’t listened to in a long time, and that’s definitely shaped this album. You’re kinda seein’ the full spectrum of those influences. I’ve said this before, and I have no idea if Jess or Cam would really agree, but I feel like this album is really like the soundtrack to the people at The Last Resort. Like The Last Resort could be a full movie and this would be like a soundtrack because it is so eclectic and varied.”
Cameron Duddy – “Can you get behind that?”
Jess Carson – “Yeah.”
Cameron – “Yeah, we’re fine with that.”
Mark – “Okay, so word has just come in that we’re in agreement about that explanation of the album (laugh).”
As Midland looks forward to next month’s CMA Awards, where they are nominated in three categories (Group, Musical Event and Video of the Year – the last two for “Longneck Way to Go” with Jon Pardi), they’re continuing their Last Resort: Greetings From Tour, which will take them to one of their favorite venues this weekend – Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
