Brantley Gilbert’s latest single, “Over When We’re Sober,” features Ashley Cooke, and Brantley explains how he chose Ashley to be his duet partner, and why he thought she would be the perfect person to join him on the song.

“Over When We’re Sober,” so, we actually wrote this song, Jelly Roll and I were working on an album, and I loved this song from the minute we wrote it. The next part of the process is finding who you’re going to collab with, especially right now when that’s kind of the name of the game in some aspects. And my producer actually, Brock Berryhill, had worked with Ashley and said, ‘Man, there is a girl who’s up and coming and is really setting things on fire right now and is absolutely incredible.’ And I remember going straight to Apple Music and pulling her up and she had just released a, what, 30-song record?

Ashley: “24, yeah.”

Brantley: “24, and I was like, nobody’s doing that right now, and I hadn’t seen a female do that in a very, very long time. I was just really impressed and as I listened down, the writing was amazing, the voice was amazing. And another cool aspect is, being kind of new on the scene, and I know you’ll work this as hard as I will, and that’s a big part of having a song out with somebody is knowing they’re invested as well.
