When Riley Green was 18-years-old and just graduating from high school, he knows how mentally ill-equipped he was, in terms of maturity, to ever make the decision to serve in the military. But he knew a lot of guys who joined the military anyway and had to grow up quickly, which is what inspired the line in his #1 song, “Different ‘Round Here,” “Brave is eighteen wearing army green.”

“I didn’t do any military. I went to college and tried to play football. But I had a lot of buddies that we were both at the same level of, I don’t want to say maturity, I’d probably say immaturity at 18 years old, and for them to be shipped off and go through all the stuff they go through, that’s as brave as it gets for me.”
