(AUDIO) “THERE GOES MY LIFE” WAS THE PERFECT CHOICE FOR GREYLAN JAMES’ “WAIT TIL YOU HAVE KIDS”

debut single: “WAIT TIL YOU HAVE KIDS

Greylan James mentions Kenny Chesney’s song “There Goes My Life” in the first verse of his debut single, “Wait Til We Have Kids.” The songs share some similar sentiments about how having kids changes your life, but Greylan explains that Kenny’s song was special to him before he named checked it in his own song.

“I mean, ‘There Goes My Life,’ it always kind of connected to me, ’cause when I moved to Nashville, I went to a write-around at The Listening Room, and I saw the two guys that wrote ‘There Goes My Life.’ And it was two guys that were in their 20s when they wrote that song and they didn’t have kids. And when we were writing ‘Wait Til You Have Kids,’ we were kind of reflecting on, oh my gosh, like that song made me emotional as a teenager, you know, far from having kids. And even the music video of that song just always like crushed me. And so, when we got to that part of the song in ‘Wait Til You Have Kids, I was like, it just feels right, ’cause ‘There Goes My Life,’ I can’t imagine what that song feels like as a parent. So, hopefully this song is gonna be that for somebody.”
