(AUDIO) Tim McGraw Recalls The Song That Made Him Want To Be A Singer

Tim McGraw has a lot of musical influences, but there’s one song in particular that he’ll never forget hearing that completely influenced his desire to be a singer. Tim recalls, “Layin’ in the back yard. I lived right on the bayou in north Louisiana and I remember layin’ in the back yard and ‘Miami My Amy’ came on, it made my jaw drop. It just made me realize that that’s the way it’s supposed to be done.”

Tim says hearing that Keith Whitley song when he was 18 made him think he wanted to be a singer. “It was an inspiring moment for me and he still is one of my favorite people to ever sit down and listen to.”

Chances are you’ll hear not only Keith Whitley’s influence, but the influence of so many of Tim’s musical heroes on his new album, Sundown Heaven Town, featuring his latest single, “Meanwhile Back at Mama’s,” which will be released on September 16th.

Tim McGraw – song that changed life  :48

“Layin’ in the back yard. I lived right on the bayou in north Louisiana and I remember layin’ in the back yard and ‘Miami My Amy’ came on, it made my jaw drop. It just made me realize that that’s the way it’s supposed to be done. When you’re 18 years old and you hear a song like that and you think you wanna be a singer, and you love all these singers and they’re great singers and there’s sort of this modern country that was startin’ to happen at that time and you hear a guy who comes along that reaches back and grabs what was so beautiful and so great about country music from the 60’s and 70’s and takes it into a place that you see where it’s goin’, in the 80’s and 90’s and where it’s come to now, and you hear that one singular voice that makes it all tie together. It was an inspiring moment for me and he still is one of my favorite people to ever sit down and listen to.”
