Tim McGraw’s new Sundown Heaven Town album was just released this week but has already garnered two CMA Awards nominations for the hit song, “Meanwhile Back At Mama’s,” featuring Faith Hill. The song is up for Single and Musical Event of the Year at the show, which takes place on November 5th in Nashville.
McGraw says that “Meanwhile Back At Mama’s” filled a void in radio at the time, but the song only showcases one of the sounds represented on Sundown Heaven Town. “I love all the stuff that’s out there and I love the progression of Country music. I love the broad spectrum of music that you can find on Country music these days. I think it’s the most dynamic and diverse genre of music that’s out there, so when you can do something like ‘Meanwhile Back At Mama’s’ and you can hear that on the radio, and you can also do something like ‘Lookin’ For That Girl’ or another song that’s on the album called ‘I’m Feelin’ You’. You can do those sort of things and know that there’s room for that in Country music, I feel like that that’s a good thing, and I feel like that ‘Meanwhile Back At Mama’s’ was a spot that needed to be filled in the entire landscape of Country music, and it’s cool that you can do that. The brand new single from Sundown Heaven Town CD is called “Shotgun Rider.” McGraw says, “It’s one of those songs that when you listen to it you picture the windows down, you picture late afternoon, you picture sort of this hazy sort of feel to it, and in my mind you look over and see the person that you love that’s smiling, relaxing, and just the wind blowing in their hair and you’re just cruising along. You just sort of look over and think, ‘How good do I have it? Life is perfect for me,’ and that’s what that song, the imagery of that song says to me.” SOUNDCUE (:26 OC: . . . says to me.)

Earlier this week, McGraw introduced “Shotgun Rider” with a performance on Good Morning America in addition to singing “Meanwhile Back At Mama’s” on The View.
