(AUDIO) The Actor In Charles Esten Appreciates The Drama In His Character’s Life

Fans of the show Nashville get invested in the characters and Charles Esten, who plays Deacon Claybourne admits he gets invested in his own character, but for a much different reason. While most of us would like to see good things happen for Deacon, Charles admits, “Part of me, I definitely feel for the guy for the rough path that he’s been on, and for the difficulties he faces. But as an actor, those are the things that you relish, getting to play those things. So, would I prefer Deacon just got to sit on his swing and life was good and everything was fine? For him, yes: for me, no.”

A lot of people assume the actors know well in advance where their character’s story line is going, but Charles says it’s not true. They don’t get scripts much in advance of when they actually shoot the show.

New episodes of NASHVILLE return to ABC on Wednesday, March 16th.

Nashville – Charles Esten invested in character :35
“I absolutely get invested in this character of Deacon, but probably in a different way than the viewers do. I have to admit that part of me, I definitely feel for the guy for the rough path that he’s been on, and for the difficulties he faces. But as an actor, those are the things that you relish, getting to play those things. So, would I prefer Deacon just got to sit on his swing and life was good and everything was fine? For him, yes: for me, no. I love the journey, the getting there. I love not knowing too. People think we know way out in front of the story what’s gonna happen. I don’t.”
