Charles Esten, who plays Deacon Claybourne on ABC’s Nashville says Christmas is definitely his favorite holiday, for several reasons. “First, in terms of my faith, it’s the birth of our Lord, and so it doesn’t get any bigger than that,” he says, “and all that surrounds that in terms of the feeling of family and just love and the gifts we bring each other and the trees, the decorations. I can’t forget the food. Christmas meal is my favorite and on top of that.”
The one element of the holiday season that Charles feels ties it all together is the music. “There’s somethin’ about it that just … movies aren’t the same until you score them and then it really brings them alive. Our show wouldn’t be anything without the music. There’s somethin’ about Christmas music that just takes you to that other place and connects one year to the next, to the next, and takes you all the way back to when you first heard that song.”
Nashville is currently on a holiday hiatus, but they’ll be returning with brand new episodes on ABC in January.
