(AUDIO) Clare Bowen of ABC’s NASHVILLE Sees The Good and Bad In Social Media

In the next episode of ABC’s Nashville, Scarlett, played by Claire Bowen, goes to Chicago with Gunnar and Avery and ends up getting hassled on social media for her last breakdown in concert. Claire says in her own personal life she’s learned, “Social media can be a really, really good thing, and it can also be used against you. People will create trolls – basically it’s hate through recreation – so they will create account after account after account, and you can block them and block them and block them, but they’ll just create another one, and it’s literally just to abuse you.”

On the other hand, Claire has experienced some special moments because of Twitter, including a friendship she formed with a cancer patient in Canada named Ella Burman, who has become a close personal friend.

Claire has decided to take some time off of social media, but she believes there are good and bad things that can come from it, and for those people that choose to be negative and hateful through social media, she says, “You just sort of think, well, you’re either a sociopath or your life is not very nice at all. So, I just kinda feel sorry for them.”

New episodes of NASHVILLE return to ABC on Wednesday, March 16th.

“Social media can be a really, really good thing, and it can also be used against you. People will create trolls, basically it’s hate through recreation, so they will create account after account after account, and you can block them and block them and block them, but they’ll just create another one, and it’s literally just to abuse you. So, I’m staying away from it, for the moment. I don’t get too much, but I don’t really have time either. My interests are in books and family and love, and I love my work. So, I made one really, really good friend on Twitter, Ella Berman who lives in Ottawa in Canada. She’s the one friend that I’ve sort of connected with on a personal level; she’s a cancer patient. So, it can be this really wonderful thing where you find each other and you inspire each other, she’s fantastic, I love her. And then the other side of it is this really negative, hateful, ignorant stuff that you just sort of think; well, you’re either a sociopath or your life is not very nice at all. So, I just kinda feel sorry for them.”
