A Thousand Horses has their debut single, “Smoke” on the radio now, but they’ve been a touring band for years, crisscrossing the country playing shows in a wide variety of venues. Bassist Zach Brown recalls one particularly memorable show at a club in Athens, Alabama. “We were gettin’ pumped to play this show, it was one of our first shows, and we walk on stage, there was about 10 people in the audience, though we were like, alright cool, they’re here to have a good time, let’s party.”
Unfortunately, soon after they took the stage, the drummer from another band they were playing with threw a stink bomb on the stage. As the smell began to permeate the room, Zach says, “By the end of the song the entire room was empty, so we finished the show playing to an empty stinky room.”
Thankfully, as they prepare to release their debut album, Southernality, on June 9th, playing to empty clubs is a thing of the past for A Thousand Horses.

A Thousand Horses – memorable gig Zach :35
“Oh man, we’ve had tons of crazy things happen on the road. A funny story, one time we were playin’ a show, I think it was in Athens. We were gettin’ pumped to play this show, it was one of our first shows, and we walk on stage, there was about 10 people in the audience, though we were like, alright cool, they’re here to have a good time, let’s party. So, we’re playin’ this show, we start to smell this terrible, terrible smell and it turns out the drummer from one of the other bands we were playing with had thrown a stink bomb on stage. So, by the end of the song the entire room was empty, so we finished the show playing to a empty stinky room.”
