(AUDIO) Rascal Flatts Humbled By ACM Award Nomination

Rascal Flatts is no stranger to winning awards, but admittedly, over the last few years, they’ve been disappointed to be left out of the nominations. “A few years ago I even stopped wakin’ up lookin’ at the nominations because it had just become so normal for us to not be in there anymore,” says Jay DeMarcus.

When they got the news that they’d been nominated this year for the ACM Awards Vocal Group of the Year, Gary LeVox says, “It felt so good to be nominated again. Not that we went anywhere, we’ve been hoppin’ like we have every year, but you miss what you don’t have. We were just so humbled and honored and we were just filled with joy.”

While they never took nominations for granted, Rascal Flatts, whose single “Riot” is currently climbing the charts, admits it was easy to get used to being nominated every year. But Gary says, “It just goes to show that you miss what you don’t have and we are truly honored and humbled and on cloud nine over the nominations.”

The 50th ACM Awards will be broadcast live from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on April 19th on CBS.

Gary LeVox – “You know, it really means the absolute world to us. It felt so good to be nominated again. Not that we went anywhere, we’ve been hoppin’ like we have every year, but you miss what you don’t have. We were just so humbled and honored and we were just filled with joy, and I think once you start being nominated a bunch and you start winning ‘em all the time and all that’s really easy to get used to. It just goes to show that you miss what you don’t have and we are truly honored and humbled and on cloud nine over the nominations.”
Jay DeMarcus – “A few years ago I even stopped wakin’ up lookin’ at the nominations because it had just become so normal for us to not be in there anymore and it was a great way to wake up. It was a fantastic way to start the day and have so many great emails and phone calls from friends, from people that were pullin’ for us to be back in there and I was really speechless. Some might think, if you win it you’ve won it, and that’s past you. But, when you’re tryin’ to still stay viable and stay in the game it’s very, very important, and it’s very, very humbling to have those things to continue to happen in your career.”

Rascal Flatts – 50th ACM Awards :51
Jay DeMarcus – “I think my first one is my favorite memory that, we were still in Los Angeles at that time and we won and I was wearing a pink suit, I remember that. That photo’s gonna be around forever. But I remember standin’ on the curb outside the theater there and the first person that called was my mom and I just didn’t even have the words, I just burst into tears. I couldn’t believe it, and I’m cryin’ and I’m so emotional and I’ve got my Mom on the phone and Brooks and Dunn had just won for Duo of the Year, and Kix Brooks walked over to me and patted me on the back and he said, ‘Congratulations Pal, you got you a bowling trophy too, didn’t ya?’ And I was like; well, that moment’s gone, thank Kix. I never will forget that. The first one is the one that I think stays with you the most.”
