This Friday, A Thousand Horses will release their new EP, Bridges. In addition to six original songs, the EP will feature six live versions of songs, which were recorded live at Metropolis Studios in London, plus a live version of their #1 song, “Smoke,” recorded at Printer’s Alley in Nashville. Bill Satcher says, “I think that the Bridges EP in its entirety is really, a lot of the songs are about life and they’re about what you go through, and I think it’s kind of a reflective piece of work in its entirety looking back on past relationships … and just kind of thinking about where we came from, from the first album up until now and what we’ve been through.”
But he also explains that Bridges is sort of an all-inclusive project. “One of the lines in the chorus is, ‘I’ve got a scar to show for every stripe I’ve earned,” says Bill. “It’s just about everything you go through, whether it’s a little thing or a big thing or a life-altering moment or something laughable, you know, anything. It’s just about life and I think that the EP reflects our lives and what we’ve been through in the last two years since ‘Smoke’ and Southernality and everything came out.”
“Bridges” is the title of a song on the new EP, but Zach Brown says it made a great title for the EP because it’s “the bridge from our last album to the next album and the new music.”
And the guys want their fans to know, “A lot of the lyrics on the album are personal … this is our honest to God life in music.”
Bridges features two versions of A Thousand Horses’ latest single, “Preachin’ to the Choir,” the studio version and a live version recorded at Metropolis Studio in London.
A Thousand Horses – Bridges title :32
Zach – “Obviously it came from the song and that was the original thing and then we’re like, that would make a great title for the EP. Obviously it’s the bridge from our last album to the next album and the new music.
Bill – “One of the lines in the chorus is, ‘I’ve got a scar to show for every stripe I’ve earned. It’s just about everything you go through, whether it’s a little thing or a big thing or a life-altering moment or something laughable, you know, anything. It’s just about life and I think that the EP reflects our lives and what we’ve been through in the last two years since ‘Smoke’ and Southernality and everything came out.”
A Thousand Horses – message about EP :38
Bill – “The first record was written before we had the record deal for the most part, except for like ‘Smoke’ and ‘First Time,’ I think. And you know, we had worked on those songs forever and we had never put anything out. So you know when you release your first record, your first thing, it’s like, ‘Well, here you go, this is it.’ But then now that we have a body of work behind us … I mean because I know as a songwriter like every song I write I want it to be better than the next, and better than the next, and the more you write the more you learn about the craft of songwriting. So then in a way your perspective changes and you’re pushing yourself and I just think since a lot of the lyrics on the album are personal I just want our fans to know this is our honest to God life (Our story, yeah.) in music.”
A Thousand Horses – commonality between projects :24
Zach – “You listen to Southernality and then you kind of carry that over to the Bridges EP, I mean, I think you’ll see that A Thousand Horses, kind of a common theme that we’ve always had is that stand up for what you believe in, keep going, you know, never give up. And being a band in country music we’ve obviously had our ups and downs and trying to figure out where we fit into everything. So I think that’s been reflected on both our Southernality album and moving forward with this.
A Thousand Horses – theme of EP :24
Bill – “I think that the Bridges EP in its entirety is really, a lot of the songs are about life and they’re about what you go through, and I think it’s kind of a reflective piece of work in its entirety looking back on past relationships. And Michael and I’s small town in Newbury, I think certainly helped influence a lot of our new lyrics and music for the album and just kind of thinking about where we came from, from the first album up until now and what we’ve been through.”
A Thousand Horses – how grown since last album :21
Michael – “We’ve been on the road for the last two and a half years. We’ve written a lot of songs together and with a lot of friends of ours here in Nashville and we’ve just kind of grown as writers and players and that’s what’s kind of exciting about putting out this new music right now is for fans to hear the direction that we’re going and more new music. And you know, we’ve got a lot more new music coming in the near future, but this is like a good picture of where we sit right now.”
