Brett Young should have a pretty laid back time when he heads to the ACM Awards this weekend, because he already knows he’s the winner for Top New Male Vocalist. Winning that award and having his songs reach the top of the charts and sell millions of copies means everything to Brett because it means his music is connecting to people. “You know what’s so funny?” says Brett, “When you move to town you hope that you’ll have things go well enough for you that people will pay attention. Or like that you might walk into a fast food restaurant and somebody might recognize you. And that’s a byproduct, that’s not the goal but you kind of think that way. And then when that starts to happen you kinda go, ‘Wait a minute, that song that we wrote, that’s important to people, like that’s connecting.’”
While all of his success has come in the past year and a half, Brett says, “I think something that I did for 14 years before I moved to Nashville just that it’s reaching more people. I think the fact that people care about the music that I’m putting out is the most interesting thing and the most flattering and humbling thing.”
Brett, whose latest single is “Mercy,” will perform on this Sunday’s ACM Awards. Don’t miss them Sunday night, April 15th, live from Las Vegas, on CBS.
