When Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum was first getting into music and performing, he says, “Something that most people probably don’t know is I actually first started playing drums before I realized I could sing. And you know, I wasn’t a very good drummer.”
Usually the drummer is set up somewhere at the back of the stage, and Charles jokes, “All of a sudden I started singing some and realized that I was better at that, and that the front man needed to be seen!”
So Charles moved to the front of the stage, where he now shares lead vocals with Hillary Scott of Lady A, on songs like their powerful new single, “What I’m Leaving For,” and the rest is history – although, occasionally during Lady Antebellum’s live shows, Charles will hop back on the drums for a song, just to have some fun.
