Brantley Gilbert definitely has his own style when it comes to country music, but when it comes to what he listens to and what inspires him, he says, “Well, a little bit everything, honestly.”
That’s been the case since Brantley was a kid listening to music on his Walkman (personal portable cassette player). “My mom bought me some, like, Christian tapes and stuff,” recalls Brantley, But I was in their room one day – my mom and dad’s room – and I found a basket that had, like, tapes in it. Everything from Lynyrd Skynyrd to AC/DC to Kool and The Gang, you know. So, it started back then. I’d grab one of those tapes and throw it in my tape player and listen to the whole thing, and you never knew what was gonna be an inspiration or an influence.”
So as far back as he can remember, and still today, Brantley says, “I’ve always been a guy that listens to a little bit of everything.”
You can hear that reflected in the music he makes from heartfelt ballads and heartbreak songs, like his #1 hit, “What Happens in a Small Town,” to his latest party anthem, “Fire’t Up,” which is his latest single.
