(AUDIO) Brantley Gilbert Believes A Good Song Requires You To Relive The Painful Past Every Night

Fortunately, Brantley Gilbert’s current single, “Small Town Throwdown,” is a fun, upbeat, party song, but he has some emotional songs like “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do” and “More Than Miles” that were based on personal experiences in his life. While most people might not want to relive those experiences, Brantley says, “If you write a song the right way, you relive it every time you sing it.”

He’s okay with that because it’s almost like therapy for him. Brantley says, “[It’s] like goin’ through that situation time and time again, so you know how to handle it better next time. Eventually you kinda figure it out.”

The good news is, Brantley has revealed that he recently got engaged to the woman who inspired those and many other emotion-filled songs in his catalog, so chances are they’ll be a little easier to sing every night. He says they’re planning to get married at the end of June 2015.

“You know, it’s all part of, these songs are songs that I’ve sang quite a few times and if you write a song the right way and you relive it every time you sing it, and it’d be like goin’ through that situation time and time again, so you know how to handle it better next time. Eventually you kinda figure it out.”
