Before Brantley Gilbert released his latest album, The Devil Don’t Sleep, he said his albums always represent the good, the bad and the ugly from his life, and he was waiting for a little more bad to happen to include on the album. Based on that, we wondered if Brantley would ever release a completely positive album. He said, “I feel like this is about as close as it gets. So I’m looking back now and I don’t know that there is much terrible on this record, which is one of the reasons we went back with some of the bonus content and put out things like ‘You Promised,’ because I feel like when you listen to a record there is a need to hear some of that vulnerable ouch, deep burn, punch in the chest stuff.”
While life is pretty darn good for Brantley these says, he says, “I don’t want people to get the wrong idea either and think that over the past three years nothing bad’s happened. In general, with my wife coming back in the picture, and with the general direction the organization and the band’s going, that we’re going musically as a unit on stage, in the studio the way songwriting is going, you know it has been an extremely positive chapter.”
The Devil Don’t Sleep features Brantley’s latest top ten single, “The Weekend,” plus 25 other tracks on the deluxe version, 24 of which he wrote or co-wrote.
