(AUDIO) Brantley Gilbert Doesn’t Hold Anything Back When It Comes To Songwriting

Brantley Gilbert admits that he only knows how to write songs about his life and things he’s lived through and can relate to. While his current single, “Small Town Throwdown” is about the fun, light-hearted side of his life, he does admit that some songs can get a little more intense and personal. Some writers will tell you they’ve written songs that are so personal or so dark that they will never see the light of day or be heard by anyone, but Brantley says, “To me song writin’ is the purest form of expression outside of prayer. But it’s also therapy. I feel like if you write a song the right way you relive it every time you sing it, but you also learn from it. Helps you cope with certain situations and look at ‘em from the outside in. So I don’t think there have ever been songs that are too personal. I try my best to bare my sleeve on my record, on all my records. What you see is what you get and kind of be an open book.”

Even though Brantley went through some intense emotions during the making of his latest album he says no topics were off limits and he held nothing back when it came to sharing those experiences through his songwriting.

Brantley Gilbert – songs ever too personal :33
“Yah, definitely went through some personal things during the makin’ of this record. But then again, a lot happened in four years and to me song writin’ is the purest form of expression outside of prayer.
