Now that the summertime is here, Brantley Gilbert says when he has free time chances are you’ll find him riding his motorcycle, although he reveals he’s about to start a new hobby that will take up a lot of his spare time. Brantley says, “I think I wanna be a deer farmer. If y’all think I can’t be a farmer, you got another thing comin’. Yeah, I wanna be a deer farmer.”
Brantley says he’s been thinking of something he could do when he gets older and can’t be as physically active, and one of his friends mentioned he was getting into deer farming and Brantley says when he heard the idea, “I said, ‘Damn, you know what? I think this man’s onto somethin’.’ ‘Cause you can grow like huge bucks, and I don’t know if you know about any of this stuff, but I have always had a passion for deer huntin’ and I have a passion for like just huge bucks. So I was like, ‘You know what? Maybe If I could get in that game.’ I mean I wouldn’t wanna be a major player in it, but I found a place that’s like 275 acres, which is manageable, and somethin’ about that size and were lookin’ and I think I may have found it.”
While his main focus these days is his music and promoting his latest single, ‘Small Town Throwdown,” Brantley says he’s excited about getting into the deer farming game.

Brantley Gilbert – favorite summertime activities 1:33
“I’m usually on a motorcycle, more often times than not. But, I decided a couple weeks ago, I think I wanna be a deer farmer. If y’all think I can’t be a farmer, you got another thing comin’. Yeah, I wanna be a deer farmer. I was huntin’ with a guy named Wayne Green and, you know, I’ve always been thinkin’ about somethin’ that I could do even when I got like a lot older and I can’t play sports or anything anymore. ‘Cause I’ve lived pretty hard. I got a feelin’ like I’m gonna be. I don’t know if I’m gonna be able to play softball at 50 or 60, let’s face it. So I was like, thinkin’ about somethin’ I could do for like the rest of my life, and really like it. And my tour manager Jeff asked Wayne, he says, ‘Wayne, what are you gonna do?’ and he laughed, now that he’s retired and everything, and Wayne said, ‘Well Jeff, I’m gonna hunt and sell deer semen.’ And I see your face and I had the same face for about a split second and I said, ‘Damn, you know what? I think this man’s onto somethin’.’ ‘Cause you can grow like huge bucks, and I don’t know if you know about any of this stuff, but I have always had a passion for deer huntin’ and I have a passion for like just huge bucks. So I was like, ‘You know what? Maybe If I could get in that game.’ I mean I wouldn’t wanna be a major player in it, but I found a place that’s like 275 acres, which is manageable, and somethin’ about that size and were lookin’ and I think I may have found it. We gotta look next week for sure. But, it’s already high-fenced and stuff. We’re gonna raise some big bucks and breed ‘em and that sorta thing. Pretty excited about that.”
