When Brantley Gilbert thinks about true love, and the kind of love he wants to share with his wife Amber, he thinks about both sets of his grandparents, and the enduring love they shared.

“There was a generation of people that loved each other like no other. When I think about marriage and love, I think about my grandparents in Indiana, who are both gone now, but we’re talking about people that were married 50 years and still holdin’ hands. They were in love until the day they died. We eventually had to put both of them in a nursing home, and they literally had to keep them with their beds set up facing each other at all times. And if they ever took my grandmother out of the room, for whatever reason, my grandfather would like, his health would decline on the spot. It was wild. I’ll never forget that, and that’ll always be in the back of my mind. When I screw up and we get in petty little arguments and stuff, or you know, I’m not being the husband I should be, it’s a good reminder that hey dude, if you want that kinda love you gotta do your part in it.”
That sentiment is what inspired Brantley to write a sweet song called “She’s the One,” for his So Help Me God album, which also features his latest single, “Heaven by Then”
