(AUDIO) BRANTLEY GILBERT ISN’T PLANNING TO TAKE PATERNITY LEAVE FOR HIS DAUGHTER

Brantley Gilbert and his wife are on baby watch for their little girl, who is due to arrive in the world on September 18th.  In the meantime, Brantley is out on his Not Like Us Tour, and he isn’t planning to take off a whole lot of time to spend at home with his new daughter because he says, “For Barrett I took like three or four months off, just cause I wanted to be there and I didn’t wanna miss a thing.  And then he got here it was like, [my wife Amber] was breast-feeding, so I was like, there’s really not a lot for dad to do when that’s going on, you know what I mean?”

Brantley is happy to help however he can, including changing diapers and rocking and holding his baby girl and getting her to sleep, but he says, “There’s not a whole lot for us to do. So this time around I was a little more comfortable, and she was okay with it, like, ‘Go work.  Don’t pace holes into the floor, you just drive me nuts anyway.”

So unlike when his son was born, Brantley says rather than taking off a bunch of time to stay home with the baby, “I’m gonna be working, bouncing out for weekends and coming home.  And I’m kinda introducing the idea, is I may take him and give her some time with baby girl and let him come out on the road with dad.

Brantley has never taken his son on the road without his wife being there, too, but if he decided to, chances are his tour mates, Lindsay Ell – who sings “What Happens in a Small Town” with him, and Michael Ray, and his band and crew would be more than happy to help Brantley out with daddy duty.

“For Barrett I took like three or four months off, just cause I wanted to be there and I didn’t wanna miss a thing.  And then he got here it was like, she was breast-feeding, so I was like, there’s really not a lot for dad to do when that’s going on, you know what I mean?  I mean we can can hold ‘em and rock ‘em and put ‘em down for a nap, but there’s not a whole lot for us to do. So this time around I was a little more comfortable, and she was okay with it, like, ‘Go work.  Don’t pace holes into the floor, you just drive me nuts anyway.  So this time around, I’m gonna be working, bouncing out for weekends and coming home.  And I’m kinda introducing the idea, is I may take him and give her some time with baby girl and let him come out on the road with dad so … They come out with me but she hasn’t  sent him out them out on the road with me without being there yet so we’ll see how that goes.”
