Brantley Gilbert has had some interesting collaborations with other musicians throughout his career. Of course we all know about his last #1 song, “What Happens in a Small Town,” with Lindsay Ell. But Brantley points out, “I did a project with Five Finger Death Punch. We did a version of Kenny Wayne Shepherd’s ‘Blue on Black.’ It was a lot of fun. You know, I’ve done some stuff with [rapper] T.I. in the past and some other folks.”
For Brantley, the idea of working with artists outside of the country music format is intriguing because, he says, “I feel like it gives me a good bit of extra freedom being a writer and an artist because it’s kind of no limit as far as creativity if I wanna cross genres and write a song with somebody.”
Believe it or not, Brantley says, “I wrote a song with [R & B star] Brian McKnight years ago and I’ve actually been talking to him a lot recently. I think we’re gonna try to do something else. It’s fun. It gets me outside of my genre, but outside of my own box.”
While Brantley certainly has his signature sound with songs like “The Weekend” and “Country Must Be Country Wide,” if you’ve ever listened to his full albums, then you know he is capable of a whole lot more than just party anthems, with songs like “One Hell of an Amen” and his current single, “Hard Days.”
