Brantley Gilbert went to college for two years, and he had a lot of ideas while he was there about what he could do for a living after he graduated, but he quickly realized none of them were probably good ideas. For instance, Brantley says, “At one point I thought about law enforcement. And then I looked around at me and my friends and knew that wasn’t an option. So that quickly went away.”
Then Brantley thought about the fact that he was a good listener and a lot of his female friends would come talk to him when they were having problems with their boyfriends or whatever, and he says, “At one point I even thought I was gonna be a relationship counselor. You know, that sounded good, cause all girls would come to me with their problems and I’d write songs and talk ‘em through it and all that. I was like, maybe I’d be good at that. And I figured I’d be responsible for more divorces than social media when I really thought about it. So that got exed out.”
If he had to be serious, Brantley says if he hadn’t found a career in country music, “I’d probably be coaching if I had to guess. I really enjoyed that. I got to coach some football where I went to high school, before I left, and I had a good time with that. So I’d say that’s probably a safe bet. I’d probably be teaching and coaching.”
For now, Brantley is enjoying the fact that his duet with Lindsay Ell, “What Happens in a Small Town,” is sitting in the top 15 on the charts, he just kicked off his Not Like Us Tour, and he and his wife are expecting a baby girl on September 18th. Perhaps he can coach one of her or his son Barrett’s little league teams when they get older.
