(AUDIO) Brantley Gilbert’s Parents Were On Board With His Career Choice After A Wobbly Start

Brantley Gilbert admits that he wasn’t a saint when he was younger, often making poor choices, which is one reason his parents were a bit hesitant about his career choice in the beginning. Looking back, Brantley understands why they weren’t initially excited about his decision to pursue music. “I think if I was a parent and I were to catch my son, if he was supposed to be playin’ at a praise and worship convention and you show up and he’s at a bar in downtown Jefferson … which is amazingly stupid at 1:30 in the morning. But yeah, they walked in and caught me.”

Fortunately as Brantley got older he got wiser and got serious about music and he says, “Once I got to a certain age and they started seein’ that I could make a livin’ out of it, or at least the beginning of it I could screech by, they really got on board big time.”

These days, thanks to hits like “Bottoms Up,” “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do” and his current single, “Small Town Throwdown,” Brantley’s doing more than screeching by with music and his parents are two of his biggest supporters.

Brantley Gilbert – mom and dad thoughts on singing :30
“As far as music went in the beginning, I think if I was a parent and I were to catch my son, if he was supposed to be playin’ at a praise and worship convention and you show up and he’s at a bar in downtown Jefferson, which is amazingly stupid at 1:30 in the morning. Yeah, they walked in and caught me. So, you know, in the beginning it was a little different, but once I got to a certain age and they started seein’ that I could make a livin’ out of it, or at least the beginning of it I could screech by, they really got on board big time.”
