Brantley Gilbert and his wife Amber have been happily married for four years, but he says that his latest song, “What Happens in a Small Town,” is deeply personal to him because a lot of it was inspired by her. “You know, my wife and I have a long history. We actually were kind of off and on when we were really young for about five years. Then went five years without seeing or speaking to each other. So this song for me, you know even in the writing process, like a lot of songs, is about her.”
Fortunately for Brantley, his ‘one that got away’ story had a happy ending with him and Amber ending up married, but he knew this song would resonate with a lot of people because he says, “I think all of us can relate to having the one that got away, and for me that was my wife. So it’s close to the chest.”
“What Happens in a Small Town,” featuring Lindsay Ell, is the first release off of Brantley‘s next album, which will be out later this year.
Brantley Gilbert – What Happens about wife :35
“That song to me is really close to my heart. You know my wife and I have a long history. We actually were kind of off and on when we were really young for about five years. Then went five years without seeing or speaking to each other. So this song for me, you know even in the writing process, like a lot of songs, is about her. Most of what I know about love is with my wife. So it makes it incredibly close to the chest. The song talks about riding around and it’s basically like everything you see and everything you do in town reminds you of the love you had there, and I think all of us can relate to having the one that got away, and for me that was my wife. So it’s close to the chest.”
