(AUDIO) BRETT YOUNG AND HIS CO-WRITERS TRAVELED BACK IN TIME FOR “YOU DIDN’T”

CURRENT SINGLE: “You Didn’t”

A lot of times when Brett Young goes into a co-write, someone in the room will share something they’re going through, that will help spark a song idea.  But in the case of Brett’s latest single, “You Didn’t,” which he co-wrote with Ashley Gorley, Jon Nite and Jimmy Robbins, no one was living or had recently lived the story line.

Brett Young – You Didn’t four happy guys  :48

“The interesting thing is, it’s four happily married men with families, writing a sad song, but I think this is about as sad as it gets because nobody’s mad in this song. It’s the guy being like, I don’t even blame you. I had that title for a long time, cause I thought those break up songs somehow hurt worse, when nobody did anything wrong, it just didn’t work out. Cause I think everybody’s had that.  Everybody in the world’s been like, I liked you and you just didn’t like me. We settled on that, and we started writing it, and it was like, none of us are in that place, so how do we get there? And we just all started talking about times in the past where that had happened. When we started talking about that, all the guys were like been there, then there, been there. And so, even though none of us are there, not even close to there, we could all kind of go back in our memories the times when we were there. And it was a weird kind of turn back the clock thing for all of us.”
