The country music scene is a pretty crowded place, with dozens and dozens of artists all competing for a spot on the charts, airplay on the radio, album sales, concert tickets sales and more. But Brett Young doesn’t feel like he’s competing against other arttists, because he says, “I think we should all, as artists, have found our own DNA as a songwriter and as an artist,” and so rather than trying to outdo another artist at their own thing, Brett says, “I really like lifting each other up. That’s my favorite thing about the country music community.”
The person that keeps Brett motivated and keeps pushing him to work harder and be better is himself. He says, “I think the only competition that I see is with myself. It’s up to me whether or not the songs get better, it’s up to me whether or not the live show and my performance gets better. And so, if I ever feel like I’m kind of slacking or there’s more I can be doing, yeah the competition is completely between me and me.”
Brett’s desire to compete with himself has worked out pretty well so far, with all six songs he’s ever released to radio making it to #1 on the charts, and his new single, “Lady,” steadily making its climb to the top.
