As an artist, the world around you can be a lot about you, just because of the nature of the job. You’re a celebrity, people want access to you, people want you to be in 40 different places, you have an entire village of people working to make your career grow. But when that artist welcomes a child into the world, like Brett Young did, four months ago, the world shifts. In fact, Brett says, “It’s been the joke already, ‘Isn’t it funny that you’re not the celebrity in the family anymore?’ They don’t mean it in the same way but it’s true. The attention shifts, but it should. That’s how it’s supposed to be.”
For Brett, people being more interested in his four-month-old daughter, Presley, than him is a bit of a welcome relief, because he says, “I never actually wanted the fame and attention that comes with this [career]. It’s actually the only part of this that’s unnatural for me. I appreciate it. I love everything that comes with it, but it’s hard, it’s uncomfortable. It’s like asking somebody that’s uncomfortable dancing to dance.”
Over time, Brett has learned to adjust to the “fame” thing that comes along with being a successful country music singer, but he says, “You start to get used to it and then all of the sudden you have this young child that can’t even speak for herself, and she is the center of attention, I actually enjoy the shift. It’s like, ‘Yeah, stop paying attention to me. Pay attention to her. She’s the important one.’ So, it is interesting. It’s different, but I actually really welcome it. It’s nice.”
With his sixth single, “Catch,” sitting in the top ten on the charts and continuing to climb toward #1, like his first five singles did, it’s safe to say the spotlight will never fully be off of Brett, even when his precious baby girl is around.
