Brett Young’s latest song, “Catch,” is about a guy who goes to a bar with his buddies, with no intention of meeting a girl, and ends up seeing the girl of his dreams across the bar. Brett likes the idea of things happening randomly when you aren’t expecting it. He says, “There’s something about, not just in this song but in life, you always say, like, you don’t find the right person until you’re not looking for them anymore. And who’s to say in this story, this couple that just met in a bar, who’s to say where their story went after that?”
Brett thinks it happens more often than we might realize in real life, thanks to things like social media. He says, “I think in most cases, somebody’s checking Facebook to see how their buddy from high school is doing and they end up seeing a picture of a girl in one of his group photos, and the next thing you know they’re messaging and they’re together. And so, I like where kind of life gets in the way in the best possible way and you end up somewhere you weren’t supposed to be meeting somebody you never would’ve met otherwise.”
Brett thinks that kind of chance meeting, like the couple in his song, “Catch,” has a storybook feel to it. And he says, “When it works the way it’s supposed to, it ends up being something you wouldn’t trade for anything in the world.”
