Brett Young is working on his sophomore album while his brand new single, “Mercy,” climbs the charts, and while a lot of things about his music will be similar to his first album, there will be some differences in his new music. Brett says, “One thing that me and [my producer] Dan Huff really want to incorporate into this record is just that I grew up listening to soul music and R&B music and so there’ll be some production stuff where you can hear a little bit of a throwback thing.”
One thing that won’t change is the inspiration for Brett’s songs. He says, “I’m going to write about my life every single time. I think that’s the kind of music I want to listen to is when I feel like people are being genuine as artists, and so I always want to be that and be transparent.”
People often talk about the pressure that comes with an artist’s sophomore album, but Brett says, “The whole sophomore album thing can be scary but I’m in a good place with it right now I’m really, really excited to share new music.”
