SEVENTH CONSECUTIVE #1 SINGLE: “Lady”
Before becoming a successful country music singer, Brett Young was a pretty successful baseball player in college, and some of the lessons he learned while playing sports have come in handy in his artist career. “I think there’s a lot of parallels,” says Brett, “but I think the one that transfers over in a helpful way the most is the work ethic that you learn when you play a competitive sport at that level. I turn down professional baseball to go to college, but then I played at the D1 level, which is still very demanding. And you learn this work ethic that is kind of like none other.”
That work ethic creates an attitude of persistence, and Brett says, “There’s this kind of tenacity that I think comes from my sports background, that just transferred immediately over to, if you’re gonna go for it you better expect a lot out of yourself. It gives you the ability to not take no for an answer, and I think that was like a really big thing for me.”
Fortunately, Brett’s tireless work ethic has paid off in the form of all seven of the songs he’s released to radio so far in his career reaching the #1 spot on the charts.
